All I've gathered about this movie so far is something about mind controlling aliens, crash landing on the moon. I really don't know. This movie is on the Sci-Fi Classics 50 Movie Pack. I swear I've seen this movie before, or at least heard the name. It sounds very familiar. Alright, I'll watch it in a little while and my review should be up around 7 P.M. or so. However, things tend to not go to plan so, no promises.
REVIEW:
Wow, that was an hour and a half of my life well spent. That movie was an interesting Sci-Fi film with an, at least semi-original, good story. It wasn't the best acting I've ever seen, however, it was far from the worst. Looking at the movie it's pretty obvious it was made in the sixties. I'll explain a little later. This movie has some technical issues. Not to mention that the transfer of the movie is quite muddy. Nonetheless, this is a good film that shouldn't be overlooked.
PROS:
The Swinging Sixties: This film was made in 1967, and it's quite obvious throughout the whole movie. The Art Design and Costume Design are where they make this really obvious. The costumes aren't really the problem, the haircuts are. Every woman has the same haircut, and it's, in my opinion, the prototypical 60's woman's hair cut.
Something about this just screams psychedelics
Dat haircut, oh and the Cinematography/Art Design
Cheese: This movie isn't extremely cheesy, it's actually quite the opposite. Maybe because it's from the U.K. It's seems like all Sci-Fi movies made in the U.S., Italy, and Japan (to name a few) during this time were, extremely cheesy. The only area where this movie tilts a little into the cheese, is the prop department. The props are, well, kind of embarassing.
I told him he looks stupid, but he won't listen
Oh, Dear, God...
Scooby Doo: You're probably really confused right now. No need to be alarmed, I will explain. The soundtrack in this film, sounds like it was directly lifted from Scooby Doo. I was sitting there at one point humming along to a song, and I was like I swear I've heard this before. It was like the difference between Under Pressure and Ice Ice Baby.
CONS:
Technical Difficulties: Usually I start these saying something and the include the picture. However this time, I'm going to show you the picture then talk about it.
The editor must have been really stoned to miss this
Yeah, that. It wouldn't be a big deal if it was a second or two of this. However, they drive the car and converse for about a minute. The whole time, it's messed up like this. I really hope the editor of this movie, was never given another job again. This is embarassing, what kind of idiot misses this.
Wading in the Mud: This is NOT a complaint about the movie, this is a complaint about the quality. I don't know if it was just the copy I watched, or if the original is just badly degraded. The movie has quite a few signs of age. The image blurs quite a bit, light sources are too bright or too dark, people in the background have their faces blurred really bad.
Look at the guy on the left, and the guy in the far back
FINAL SCORE
8/10
