Update-y Thing (with 2 reviews!)

Howdy folks, just here to update you on the state of this whole thing. I sat down the other day and tried to bang out a review. However, I used the word tried there for a reason. It wasn't something I wanted to be doing. I had like 3 paragraphs written, then realized, "Why am I doing this?" If I don't want to be doing it, the review is going to suffer for it. Granted, I'll never call a movie bad (Well most movies.) However, I'd rather not put myself in a position where my attitude is going to cause my review to make the movie sound worse than it is. Lately, I've been playing lot of video games, not watching movies. I am willing to list of some movies you could check out if your interested in some schlock, so that's what I'm going to do now. I'll also list some games I've been playing, while I'm at it.

Movie: Well since we last spoke my movie collection has increased, rather substantially. My last post was about breaking 1700 movies. Let me go count what I have now....... 2179 not removing duplicates. So somewhere in the realm of 2100. I pick up a few here or there, and it really seems to add up quick. So here's a list of some recent acquisitions and other films I think you should check out.

Trailer Park of Terror
The Eden Formula
Xtro 3
Recoil
How To Make A Monster
Taffin
Supernova

These movies are by no means all schlock, this is just a list of recent acquisitions, that are rather enjoyable. You more likely than not haven't heard of these either.

Failed Reviews: I said earlier I had tried to write a review and failed. I actually tried twice. With two different movies. And by some ungodly twist of fate, I actually didn't like one. So those two movies are: Prehistoric Bimbos in Armageddon City (8/10) and 30,000 Leagues Under the Sea 07 (3/10). I'll touch on each very briefly, giving a little reason for my choices.

Prehistoric Bimbos in Armageddon City: The 8/10 here is pretty easy, this is extreme schlock. Coming from the master, Todd Sheets. This guy is known for making movies on a budget tighter than a strand of hair, and making them badly. He's known for his crap and god is there a lot of it. The movie is by no means good, it's definitely a "so bad it's good" movie. It's hard to imagine how he got the women to dress this way and walk around Chicago. But, I digress, it's a fun affair that will leave you confused, yet somehow strangely satisfied.

30,000 Leagues Under the Sea: A very loose retelling of the Jules Verne classic, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." You might be asking, "why the name change?" To be honest with you, I have no fucking clue. However, if I had to put my money on something I would think they were trying to be cutting edge. I would guess royalties, however, 20,000 Leagues is in P.D. The movie is abysmal, with like 2 or 3 redeeming factors. The actor who plays Captain Nemo, is great. It seems like he doesn't belong in this movie, he belongs in a better movie, something with some value. Most of the time the CGI is a visual shit storm. It's a joke, however, Nemo's ship and the squid things aren't bad. Not great, but not bad. The rest of the movie is boring, shit characters doing boring, shitty things. Acting is horrible, cinematography is horrible, the story probably has Jules Verne rolling in his grave. This does an injustice to a great novel, and even more of injustice to film-making in general. However, it all boils down to the fact that I could've done this review in 4 words. It's an Asylum film.

There you have it, two mini-reviews. I'm thinking about re-tooling the blog and coming back. Not sure yet. I'll think about it more later.

Games: Oh, I've been busy, seems like I keep finding another game to keep me interested everyday. First it was Diablo 3, played that for about a week, til I remembered that I hate Blizzard, I'm not going to buy a fucking Authenticator you god damn assholes. Anywho, after that I played some random shit for awhile, bouncing around on some games I bought a while back but never playred much. Then I got in the mood for a 4x game. For those not in the know a 4X game, is a game involving 4 major aspects (Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate.) This genre includes everything from Civilization to Master of Orion. More specifically, I was in the mood for a space 4X game. so I picked up: Space Empires IV, Space Empires V, Star Ruler, and finally Endless Space. All of which are super fun in different way. Then I found a game called Aurora, If I ever meet someone who is able to play this game, and does, for fun. I will literally slap myself silly. It is the most complex and obtuse game I've ever seen.

Well after the 4X thing began to wear off, I began play Dwarf Fortress again. DF is one of my all-time favorite games, so going back to it is no surprise. I also found out there were a bunch of clone-esque games out there now. Towns and Gnomeria being the two I've been playing the most. Especially Gnomeria, it's a great game that's in Alpha it has tons of potential and is quite fun. However, in depth none compare to DF. In terms of eas of play Gnomeria definitely wins out. It's easy to play and fun enough to keep you entertained for some time.

Alright, that's it for now. I'll leave you with a picture that was drawn for me. Right after the .34 update for Dwarf Fortress, I realized it was one of my favorite games ever, and I was playing it for free. So I donated to the developers, not a lot, I was basically just trying to say thanks for the amazing game. for donations they offer certain "gifts". You can get your name put on the Wall of Fame on their website, they'll make a little ASCII drawing thingy, or, you can get a crayon drawing. Obviously that's what I chose. Nobody's seen this yet, it's not on my Facebook or anything, this is the first place I'll be showing it. I just want to say thanks to Tarn and Zach, not only for the picture but also for the amazing game that is Dwarf Fortress. The only thing I asked for in my picture was something to do with the new were monsters in DF .34. This is what I got, Have a great day guys.

1700 Movies Now!

Alright guys, just thought I'd post this quickly to let everyone know, I've reached 1700 movies. Now take this number with a grain of salt, as this doesn't count overlap. If I had to estimate closer I'd say I have 1650. However, the number of individual DVD and Blu-Ray titles plus the 900 movies from my 50 movie packs totals up to 1700.

I keep promising to get reviews out, but then I get side-tracked. I'm trying to stay on target and hoping to get one up either today or tomorrow.

Ok, now for the fun part. Now that I have so many new movies and titles in my library, I'm going to post new pictures of my collection. From these screenshots of my collection you can make requests or recommendations, or whatever else you want to do with it. I'm going to not only do a screenshot of my catalog I keep on my PC, but I'm also going to go take physical photos of my collection.

Alright, let's start with the PC catalog and then the physical photos:

I just spent like an hour taking all these photos so I hope you guys enjoy them. And, for the record, the reason I'm posting real pictures as well is because I don't have all my movies in that list, I also have several TV shows and concerts.

Some More Good News

Hey guys, just wanted to put a quick blog out to keep you in the loop. I've been keeping up on my pain medications and my back pain is becoming... manageable. Not better, but, I'm learning to deal with it. So as I stated in my last post, I got the Action Classics 50 Movie Pack. Since then I've acquired 3 more, that, for me, are quite out of the ordinary. I'll list them and link to where you find a list of titles and purchase if wanted:

I also have a few more movies in the mail to add to my collection. As of recent tally I have 1675 movies in my collection (this is not counting 50 movie pack overlap). So I'm going to be posting reviews occasionally, when I'm feeling up to it. It won't be a set time, and I probably won't announce the movie prior to releasing the review (as I have previously).

I'm excited to get into these 3 new packs, as well as dive back into my other films.

There also going to be a tad bit more "planning" going in to my reviews. In other words, I will occasionally write reviews on movies I chose to watch for that purpose, or, a movie I see on Television or Netflix that I really like or dislike and wish to write a review about.

I think that's about it. I'm surprised how drastically this blog has changed, I didn't bargain on it. However, I'm glad that you guys continue to read =).

Some Good News

So this isn't a review. If that wasn't obvious by the title. My back injury has recently taken a sever turn for the worst. It's hard for me to sit, I've spent the past few days, mostly, in bed. I've watched a lot of movies I haven't seen before or haven't seen in a long time. Such as:

Blacula

Cape Fear (90s)

20 Million Miles To Earth

And that's just to name a few. It's been nice lounging around, however, it's still been very painful. Moving in the slightest causes me great pain now. It's hard to write this, I have a sharp pain in both my hips and another in the middle of my back. I'm making due with medication, but that provides little to no relief. It's been a long couple of days. However, the movies have helped them to pass.

Now for the Good News! In the mail today, I received the Action Classics 50 Movie Pack. This pack has gone out of print, and was happy to get it for a good price. I have a few other cool things coming in the next few days.

Hopefully, when I feel better, I can do some reviews on some particular stuff. Not doing the random movies I've been doing up to this point, maybe choosing some movies by hannd. I'd really like to write a review on Blacula it was a sweet movie. The word Blacula will link to where you can buy it (Note: I was going to link to where you could buy the DVD, however, the price is now 23 dollars! I only paid like 5 or 6 for it. Anyways, I linked to the Instant watch thing on Amazon, instead pay 2.99). Which I definitely recommend, it was fun to watch but at the same time was pretty creepy.

Alright guys, that's it. Just wanted to let you know that this is still alive, and I will be bringing some new reviews soon. Also from now on the Action Classics will be included in my 50 movie pack random movie thingys. So I will now rule on 15 packs instead of 14. Bumping my total movies there up to 750. Bringing my total movies up to 1483. Getting close to 1500! Should break it with this influx of movies. Bye guys!

They Came From Beyond Space

All I've gathered about this movie so far is something about mind controlling aliens, crash landing on the moon. I really don't know. This movie is on the Sci-Fi Classics 50 Movie Pack. I swear I've seen this movie before, or at least heard the name. It sounds very familiar. Alright, I'll watch it in a little while and my review should be up around 7 P.M. or so. However, things tend to not go to plan so, no promises.

REVIEW:

Wow, that was an hour and a half of my life well spent. That movie was an interesting Sci-Fi film with an, at least semi-original, good story. It wasn't the best acting I've ever seen, however, it was far from the worst. Looking at the movie it's pretty obvious it was made in the sixties. I'll explain a little later. This movie has some technical issues. Not to mention that the transfer of the movie is quite muddy. Nonetheless, this is a good film that shouldn't be overlooked.

PROS:

The Swinging Sixties: This film was made in 1967, and it's quite obvious throughout the whole movie. The Art Design and Costume Design are where they make this really obvious. The costumes aren't really the problem, the haircuts are. Every woman has the same haircut, and it's, in my opinion, the prototypical 60's woman's hair cut.

Something about this just screams psychedelics

Dat haircut, oh and the Cinematography/Art Design

Cheese: This movie isn't extremely cheesy, it's actually quite the opposite. Maybe because it's from the U.K. It's seems like all Sci-Fi movies made in the U.S., Italy, and Japan (to name a few) during this time were, extremely cheesy. The only area where this movie tilts a little into the cheese, is the prop department. The props are, well, kind of embarassing.

I told him he looks stupid, but he won't listen

 Oh, Dear, God...

Scooby Doo: You're probably really confused right now. No need to be alarmed, I will explain. The soundtrack in this film, sounds like it was directly lifted from Scooby Doo. I was sitting there at one point humming along to a song, and I was like I swear I've heard this before. It was like the difference between Under Pressure and Ice Ice Baby.

CONS:

Technical Difficulties: Usually I start these saying something and the include the picture. However this time, I'm going to show you the picture then talk about it.

The editor must have been really stoned to miss this

Yeah, that. It wouldn't be a big deal if it was a second or two of this. However, they drive the car and converse for about a minute. The whole time, it's messed up like this. I really hope the editor of this movie, was never given another job again. This is embarassing, what kind of idiot misses this.

Wading in the Mud: This is NOT a complaint about the movie, this is a complaint about the quality. I don't know if it was just the copy I watched, or if the original is just badly degraded. The movie has quite a few signs of age. The image blurs quite a bit, light sources are too bright or too dark, people in the background have their faces blurred really bad.

Look at the guy on the left, and the guy in the far back

FINAL SCORE

8/10

If you haven't seen this movie yet, you can watch it for free down below. I recommend you do. I'm not going to promise it'll be your cup of tea, however, it is definitely mine. I enjoyed this movie a lot, take that as you will.
